Omigad, there's a pinay in the Bush Regime Playing Cards. (Just to make it clear, this NOT something to be proud about)

I think I am more frustrated at my mom's frustration of having to cancel her much-needed trip to the Philippines due do the damn SARS epidemic than she is herself. Why is it that though as of the 26th, only 4 cases of SARS were reported in the Philippines, yet there are 41 here in the States (141 in neighboring Canada), the fear of being quarantined or catching the disease in the Philippines is much greater? This is a rhetorical question created out of, yes you guessed it folks, frustration.

Last night was fun. [Pictures 11 through 20] By the way, these pics were taken by B's new digital camera. Can you see the difference from the first 10 pics?

Also, B and I just came back from a well-deserved trip to Boston. I'll be adding the pics to the photo log once they've been developed.

Okay, so it's official. My B is the coolest boyfriend ever. And last night's birthday celebration was one of the most fun I've had a party I've hosted ever. B was so cute. This morning, he said, I wanted to make sure you and your family knew I was a great catch." Hehe. And that you can't really find any guy better than him. Hehe. True, all, true. Why do you think we've been together for nearly four years? But last night, he proved it to the rest of my family and closest friends. He cooked nearly everything we ate last night. Of course he tricked me into to helping him prepare. (The nerve of asking me to help prepare my own birthday dinner!) I'll admit to you though, that it was kinda cool to help prepare, as much as I grumbled through it. Appetizers consisted of homecooked shrimp toast and spring roll -- better than you'd get at a restaurant, I swear! Mom made grilled shrimp whose "skewers" where thin sliced stalks of sugar cane. Soooo yummy.

Then came dinner. We had Pad Thai (Thai noodles), mixed vegetables in coconut milk, and roast duck. Double yum! Everyone was so impressed, and B got quite a number of requests for furure parties! The fun part though was the games. Yes, I am a dork. I swear I get a lot done riding the subway. I devised it all on the train. I organized a game of charades and a "pre-easter egg hunt." O knew some of my younger relatives would be coming and they always get bored at these gatherings coz all we do is eat, talk and watch TV. I wanted them to have fun, and the adults could join in as well. I thought I would have a harder time convincing them to play charades and easy to send them on an egghunt knowing some of the plastic eggs had money and other goodies from the dollar store I recently discovered next to the school where I student taught. Anyways, it was a GREAT night. I'm getting lazy giving more details. Heh.

A wise woman once said, "If someone tells you they've given you your freedom, they still own you."

I also once heard, "Freedom must be gained, not given."

Name that quote.

Today my fellow student teachers went on a "field trip" to this cool non-profit called Adaptive Design Agency, which designs and constructs adaptive equipment for children with disabilities and teach others to create as well. There's also an article about the agency in this month's Exceptional Parent Magazine.

This evening, I skipped out on yet another class (soooo bad!) and had a late lunch with the family, and then helped B prepare tomorrow's birthday dinner. I swear this is the first time i can remember ever preparing my own birthday dinner. And DON'T even ask how old I am.Heh. DO send cash.

I am getting closer and closer to becoming a full fledged teacher. I just found out that I passed both parts of the New York State Teacher Certification Examination. Now I just need to get through the rest of the semester and pass my university's Comprehensive Exam. Parang ang dali, no? Considering that when I'm not physically sick with the flu, I'm suffering from an acute case of senioritis! Only a month and a half to go and then I...look for a real job. Heh:)

The students are still lovable brats. A new Chinese American girl transferred into the class. She was so quiet at first, the classroom teacher thought she didn't speak English. But boy, when I started to talk to her and help her out a bit she threw questions at me left and right! She first asked me if I was born in China. Then she asked if my parents were from China. A nosy (but adorably witty) African American classmate butted in the conversation and said, "no, she's not from China. Her parents are from the Philippines but she was born in NY. She does look Chinese don't she? It's coz China is near the Philippines. They're both in Asia. She Asian." Words to warm my heart. To think, they actually were listening when I pointed out the Philippines to them on the classroom globe :)
