I am 12 days away from leaving for the Philippines. Things I want and plan to do, in addition to spending time with my family in Laguna:

+ Present at the Sangandaan Conference

+ Visit an orphanage in Bulacan

+ Go to two different spas recommeneded by 2 different people

+Spend as much time as the Looney's will allow on their Organic Farm

+ Go to Sanctum

+ Find out what so hot about Fort Santiago and Libis these days

+ Go to Joel Torre's new restaurant Bacolod Manokan

+ Go to 70s Bistro

+ Go to Vestiges of War Book Party

+ Buy some shoes in Liliw

+ Buy whatever I can get my hands on at Divisoria

+ Buy books at National Bookstore and The Filipino Bookstore

+ Meet the folks from Kasibulan

I'm sure my list will get longer as the days pass and my 4 week vacation will seem shorter and shorter...

*Excited na ako!*

So the photo logs didn't quite continue. Ang hirap kasi mag-upload eh! So why not spread myself a little thinner, right? Right! My Reading section is now a blog. Let's see where that goes. I think of the silliest things to do when I have something important that I have to finish. Argh.

I really annoy myself when I get into these writer's block slumps. I've been doing a horrible job trying to finish this thing I gotta finish like ASAP and instead of just writing the damn thing, I keep taking down notes from other sources when really, I could write the damn thing from my own point of view. I kinda know my "writing style" by now. First off, I can NEVER get anything writing related in on time. Steffy and B can attest to that. Heh. Secondly, I know it may look like procrastination, but I SWEAR it's...only half procrastination. I SWEAR while I look like I'm stalling for time, doing other silly things, my mind really IS processing what it's getting ready to write. The best thing for me to do most times is to read something. Usually when I read something, ideas start flowing out of me. The problem is, for this thing, I KEEP writing notes down, and everything is spread out in terms of ideas and crap. I have this analogy of needing to "fill my cup" with who the heck knows what, until the cup is over flowing and I have no other choice but to write everything down, and it all comes out flowing quite nicely. I suppose I'm still filling the cup. And the cup is a mess. It's about 9-10 pages of notes and quotes, when really, I could just do a 4-5 pager. I'm really frustrated right now. I just wish the cup would just overflow already and just flow. Argggh.

"Identities are the names we give to the different ways we are positioned by and position ourselves within the narratives of the past..."

From Asian America: Through the Lens one of the books I am perusing this month.

I have four envelopes that contain our new maarte stickers, some have more than others. The envelopes have domestic stamps on them, collecting dust, awaiting some addresses so that I can send them off. Interested? Lemme know. They go to the first four folks that send me their mailing addresses.

Check out the poem and proposed title I wrote, inspired by the current Untitled piece.

What do YOU think the title should be?

Quick! I accidentally spent $30 for one ticket to ACV's Closing Night Film for Sunday, June 29, 8:00pm
LONG LIFE, HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY directed by Mina Shum which normally I would go see coz Sandra Oh is in it, but $30 is quite steep for me especially these days. If you are in NY and are interested in buying it from me, let me know. The ticket also gives you access to a party after. Here's the info for that:

Saturday, June 28

I"m still here.

Days after graduation were quite busy. We had relatives visiting from Seattle for about a week. One of them, my cousin, D, sang for a wedding we all attended. It was the wedding of my god-daughter's parents. I was a bridesmaid and the hair stylist made my hair look pretty funky. Too bad it made me look like Medusa. I always regret putting my hair up for formal occasions. No matter what the style, I end up looking like a matrona. Then came the parade. It was pouring the night before, and that morning it also looked like it was about to pour. At 6:30 in the morning, B and I were arguing about alternatives. When the clock hit 7 I started calling folks to see what they thought. Thanksfully, we decided to go anyways, and brave the rain despite our banners painted with water-based paint on canvas that essentially was wall paper. Grassroots baby!

Then Mom caught me in a moment of weakness. She asks me (while on the phone with person requesting) if I can play the piano for a healing mass. In that brief moment of weakness, I could not for the life of me think of a decent excuse to refuse. You'd think the paper I have to finish of the Sangandaan conference woulda sufficed, no? But no, I couldn't think that fast and so, I agreed. Anyway, I'm getting boring, so let me close with a Pinoy Hay(na)ku inspired by Eileen's recent call for them:

mass

healing seeks

memory in song
