Write with lines trippy echo
can map musical universe mixed pulled
open it up scattered kicking out
us created world
share badly selfish wicked tops
appeal went to boys say back
the one star past
still the same like it
Lyrics that resonate:
I try to think about rainbows when it gets bad/You got to think about something to keep from going mad
-In My Head, No Doubt
This week has been fun but exhausting. The earliest I've slept this week I think is 2am, the latest, 5:30am. My body is not liking it one bit. As fun as it's been, I'm looking forward to a less hectic next week...
Watched Tuhog last night. It was so good. I can't believe Ina Raymundo was actually good in this film. And I've never seen a commercially made Filipino film critique its own industry.
It was a pretty surreal atmosphere outside the theater after the movie, seeing (and actually chatting with some) folks like Luis Francia, Jessica Hagedorn (I think she finally recognizes me after all these years and actually waved hello), Han Ong, Ching Valdez, Nicky Paraiso, Sari Dalena, Lav Diaz, and G Toengi (no, not a typo. gad, some guys (who shall remain nameless) I used to respect were totally drooling over this girl. It's actually entertaining to watch them. Haha). The guys from the 63 collective were there too. B and I had a chance to interview Chris, Mark and Don at this cool cafe on Mercer.
Arkipelago hosted a reception for Filipino filmmakers whose films are being featured in this year's AAIFF. Last night's gathering with the filmmakers, producers, ACV folks, actors, artists and groupies was a very succesful event. We had in attendance at least 50 people. We bought drinks for the filmmakers and provided finger foods for everyone. LP gave maARTe stickers to the filmmakers to wear with pride. We made LP's copy of the AAIFF program book, the official Arkipelago "slam book" and had the filmmakers and ACV staff present sign it. We had a blast!
Some in attendance included: Marilou Diaz Abaya - Dir of Bagong buwan, Jose Rizal, Muro Ami; Angel Shaw - Acting Exec Director of ACV; David Maquiling - Festival Co-director; Jeffrey Jeturian - Dir of Tuhog, Pila Balde; Chris Castillo - Dir of The Sky is Falling, son of Celso Castillo; Sari Lluch Dalena - Dir of Memories of Forgotten War, Bullet Days; Keith Sicat - filmmaker; Mark Bella - Dir of She; Don de Leon - Dir of Passport, RP63 Productions; Roger Garcia - Film Critic;
Noel Shaw - Dir of The dreams stuff is made of...
I was pretty disappointed that only three Arkipelago members came to it, considering we were the hosts. Sayang, it was a rare experience. And dobleng sayang if the reason some didn't come was out of intimidation... It was actually cool, kasi, ala "mutual admiration society" many of the folks there actually READ maARTe. It sorta lessened the possible intimidation coz they had that respect for what we did too. I'm always surprised and super kilig when people I haven't previously met tell me they read maARTe. I'm such a dork. Hehe...
B and I bought tickets for Lav Diaz's Batang West Side on Wed, Tuhog on Thurs, and Marilou Diaz-Abaya's Bagong Buwan on Sat. Will we see you NYC- based guys there??
It's very convenient to have friends with blogs. Have I been spending too much time with her!?? I'd just like to add the fact that Heidi made me and B hang out with her outside Hunter til god know what time coz she didn't want to go home yet. For a tough grrl, she can be quite the scaredy cat. Hahaha...
Me? Currently pulling my hair over the next maARTe update. I shall return. Like you notice, hehe.

This is for Cliff, who was appropriately frightened when I made him read this last weekend. Hehe:)

Are you a former crayon eater?
Join the Focrayters! (aka former crayon eaters) for our first (of many more!) meeting on Saturday, July 13, 2002 at 2:00 PM in Central Park. We will be AT SHEEPS MEADOW, west of Rumsey Playfield (site of Summerstage). Summerstage is located right off the 5th ave and 72nd st entrance
to Central Park. Take the B or C train to 72nd Street Central Park West or the M72 bus to 5th Ave.
What are the FoCrayters? Think of it as a study group for creative-minded folks but with less of a rigid structure. Got writers block? The atmosphere of having fellow writers will get that out of yoursystem. Haven't given yourself time to fill the sketch pad? Itching to press record on the DV Cam? Share your work in progress and we'll provide valuable, constructive feedback AND an atmosphere of support and trust from your fellow artists.
FOCRAY is a new program of Arkipelago.
Hehe, ang arte ko no?
I think I've overwhelmed you with too many pictures, so I'm gonna try to pace myself. Here's part of the Absolute Cosmo pics. Incidentally, it was Steffy's drink when we hung out at Dragon Fly last week.

B FINALLY showed me (again) how to do the automated batch processing on photoshop. Can you believe I've been resizing and optimizing each pic one by one up until now? The madness finally ends.
