So apparently, a question I posed back in August has affected some people. It was a question I posed about Pinoy group blogs that were either primarily in Tagalog or English. As I said in that post, I really meant no judgment. It was an honest question that I expected more folks to give feedback on back then because I really was looking for an answer. I remember thinking it curious that so few commented on that. Apparently more folks read it than I expected and were offended simply because they read into more than what I actually wrote. Because if you really cared to know what I really thought about it, you would know that for me, nationalism, or having a sense of "Pinoy pride" whether based in the Philippines or abroad is more than about what language one speaks. If you knew more about the work of groups I'm involved with, you would know that I wouldn't judge one's level of pride or self-knowledge simply on language. And to assume that I would even simplify it to just Tagalog and English - come on. See, this is why the web can never take the place of face to face conversation and contact. Some people just assume too much. It also would have been nice if these folks who were so bothered would contact me directly rather than blogging about harboring these negative assumptions about me.
